According to Wikipedia, he is &#8220;best noted for his founding of the\u00a0Aspen Institute,&#8221; which is, of course, hugely important for the furthering of the design discipline, &#8220;and the\u00a0Aspen Skiing Company\u00a0in the early 1950s, both of which helped transform the town of\u00a0Aspen, Colorado\u00a0into an international resort destination and popularize the sport of\u00a0skiing\u00a0in the United States.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.educator13.lsd-studio.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/freak-power-campaign.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"freak-power-campaign\" src=\"https:\/\/www.educator13.lsd-studio.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/freak-power-campaign-230x300.jpeg\" width=\"230\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I knew the name sounded familiar, but it finally clicked while reading the McCoy text today. Although I won&#8217;t comment on the impact of his ventures on the Aspen area, I&#8217;ll defer to American hero Hunter S. Thompson&#8217;s tentative platform for his infamous run for Sheriff of Pitkin County, Colo. In it, he demonstrates an impressive understanding of the political consequences of place branding\u2014give it a read and (maybe) have a laugh.<\/p>\n<p>I used this for an introduction to the inaugural issue of a now-defunct periodical I edited, so excuse the fact that it&#8217;s an image\u2014it doesn&#8217;t seem to exist in text form online as of yet, and tbh I don&#8217;t really feel like transcribing it right now.
